Avoid the small gap between beloved leader and despised failure
by Mark Sanborn - Logoworks
[ Commentary by Meryl K. Evans, Editor ]
Mark Sanborn, author of The Fred Factor, looks at how we’ve seen leaders fall apart. This can’t happen to me, can it? Not when you know Donald Trump went bankrupt, but he made it to the top again.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t take much to go from the top to the bottom.
Sanborn discussed why leaders fail with Ken Maupin, a psychotherapist who works with high performing people. Together they came up with six warning signs that a leader may face failure soon.
Shift in focus: Losing focus, thinking small and "doing" rather than "becoming."
Poor communication: Who can follow a leader that isn’t understood?

Risk adversion: Worries about failure instead of success.
Ethics slip: Letting their integrity go…
Poor self-management: When a leader lets the physical, psychological, emotion and spiritual needs take their toll
Lost love: Lost sight of their dream. Think about leaders who have failed. Don’t they all meet at least one of the above warning signs?
Leaders evolve over time, so people won’t notice when a leader changes for the worse. The little things start setting off employees who eventually stop caring. Agree or disagree? What say you?
