[ Commentary by Meryl K. Evans, Editor ]

The article talks about five qualities in a motivational leader.

  • Vision - See the big picture.
  • Integrity - Admitting strengths and weaknesses.
  • Courage - Follow through on vision and commitments.
  • Realism - Sees the world as it really is.
  • Responsibility - Little things you do or don’t do can affect the outcome.

The article is spot on. But it is almost impossible to see any successful leader possessing all those qualities. Having changed a number of jobs over the years, one thing that always puzzled me for the leaders is their commitment compliance. Short term vision overtakes long term goals - promises are conveniently forgotten, their personal interest come ahead of their reports or sometimes even the organisation.

Thank you for commenting on the article. You're right that it’s rare for a leader to possess all of these qualities. But maybe they would be more successful if they have some of these qualities without the barrier of short-term results and self-interest.
